Sphemme & Cumen

Sphemen is a sculpture that was created with the intention of paying homage to the female form. The sculpture is constructed around the constraint of adhering to the perfect shape of a sphere, while still maintaining the recognisable characteristics of a female body. Its monumental size helps to relate to that of a human, at this scale it is large enough to require the viewer to move around it in order to fully comprehend its details and essence. Placed at the entrance of the exhibition, it can be perceived as a human skull or an extraterrestrial form that serves as a reminder of human mortality, akin to a memento mori.
The sculpture’s movement is one of outward expansion, in contrast to an embryo in a fetal position. This movement signifies growth and expansion towards the outside. The body is that of a woman whose growth is complete.
This sculpture has no face, no hands, no feet, it is a representation of ecstasy and perfection through the use of the mathematically perfect shape of a sphere.
The work “Cumen” functions in conjunction with Sphemen, as the sculpture of a contorted male form in the shape of a cube. It appears enclosed and faceless. Its small size, black color, and angular appearance contrast with the sculpture of “Sphemen.”

La sculpture est construite autour de la contrainte de se conformer à la forme parfaite d'une sphère, tout en conservant les caractéristiques reconnaissables d'un corps féminin. Sa taille monumentale permet de la rapprocher de celle d'un être humain. À cette échelle, elle est assez grande pour obliger le spectateur à se déplacer autour d'elle afin de comprendre pleinement ses détails et son essence. Placée à l'entrée de l'exposition, elle peut être perçue comme un crâne humain ou une forme extraterrestre qui sert de rappel de la mortalité humaine, semblable à un memento mori.
Le mouvement de la sculpture est celui d'une expansion vers l'extérieur, contrairement à un embryon en position fœtale. Ce mouvement signifie la croissance et l'expansion vers l'extérieur. Le corps est celui d'une femme dont la croissance est complète.
Cette sculpture n'a ni visage, ni mains, ni pieds, c'est une représentation de l'extase et de la perfection grâce à l'utilisation de la forme mathématiquement parfaite d'une sphère.
L'œuvre "Cumen" fonctionne en conjonction avec Sphemen, en tant que sculpture d'une forme masculine contorsionnée en forme de cube. Elle apparaît fermée et sans visage. Sa petite taille, sa couleur noire et son apparence angulaire contrastent avec la sculpture de "Sphemen".
